While most caregivers request aid with basic expenses or specialty items like wheelchairs, some need something a little different, including two of our recent recipients.
Teresita Alcantara is the full-time caregiver of her 80-year-old husband who struggles with deteriorating health due to a car accident. In addition, her sister in Las Vegas is now a caregiver for her husband, who was hit with a stroke.
Teresita sought travel funds to go to Vegas to help and support her sister and also enliven her husband, who had become depressed and enjoyed the company of his nieces and nephews. The Foundation came through with the needed costs.
“We were truly grateful” for this trip,” Alcantara told the Foundation. “Your thoughtfulness is a gift we will always treasure.”
While their trip provided both family and caregiving support, one recipient, Imelda Esperanza, simply sought joy. She wanted to take her 14-year-old daughter to “The Happiest Place on Earth” for the first time.
As a single mom who is the caregiver to two severely impaired parents, Esperanza’s daughter often received little attention. A special trip to Disneyland just for her was something Esperanza wanted to give, but couldn’t provide. In addition, she hoped to take her daughter shopping and buy fun clothes and other items.
Again, the Foundation stepped in with Disneyland tickets, bus fare plus a Target gift card to liven the spirits of both Esperanza and her daughter.
The memories will be priceless.
